FAQ

What's a bookmarklet?

They can do a lot of things, but in this case it's like a "smart bookmark". Not only does it come to this site like any bookmark, but it also customizes the URL such that it requests the blog you're you're currently viewing. So you get your results with no typing or pasting. Google the word "bookmarklet" if you want more information.

Does this work on all desktop browsers?

Yes, all major browsers support this, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera and IE (it's been tested on at least one version of each of those browsers, anyway).

I don't have a "bookmarks bar"

You do, it's just not showing. It's a simple view setting to enable it. I can't give exact details because it's different for every browser. Note that IE calls it a "favorites bar", everyone else calls it a bookmarks bar, just google it.

Does this work on mobile?

Basically no, as you can't drag and drop a link to a bookmarks bar. But if you're kinda tekkie and really motivated, it is possible! You have to select & copy this text, edit an existing bookmark and paste it in where the link normally goes (tested on iPad / IOS 7 and iPhone / IOS6).

Is this useful to check my own blog?

Well, it'll work on your own blog, of course, if you're viewing your own blog when you click it - it works on any blog. But if you mainly come here to check your own blog, that's not the most convenient way because you have to be on your blog before you click it. For checking your own blog, just bookmark the results page with a "regular" bookmark - that will give you single click result wherever you are.

But you can certainly have two buttons! Make a regular bookmark for your blog and use this "Blog Info" bookmarklet for checking any other blog you happen to be on.

Do I have to be on a blog's "main page" to use this?

No! It should work no matter where you are on someone's blog.

Will it work if the blog uses a custom domain?

Yes! In fact, that's one of its great uses. When you're on a blog with a custom domain, Tumblr provides no simple way to quickly find out the Tumblr username. With this, simply click the button and check "Username:"
